Diversity & Inclusion; Supporting Sexual & Gender Minorities

I learned so much, but one thing that stood out was how complex sexual development actually is versus the limited social constructs we are conditioned to accept.

Description:

LGBTQ+ people are often marginalized and omitted from the dominant narrative about sexual development – and may even be afraid or unsure how to tell you about their needs. This training equips you to demonstrate an openness, respond thoughtfully, and gives you strategies to support someone to explore their own identity.

Learning Objectives:

  • Understand different sexual and gender identities

  • Recognize gender as a social construct

  • Realize the diversity of genitalia and genetic make-up (not just XX or XY chromosomes)

  • Acknowledge the diversity of relationship models and sexual self-expression

  • Develop skills for discussing sex and sexuality

  • Build ‘safer spaces’ to support individuals who identify as LGBTQIA+ and experience intellectual and/or developmental diversity

Continuing Education Credits:

  • Approved for CEUs for Oregon Foster Care and Long-Term Care Providers

  • Approved for CEs for Washington State Long-Term Care Workers through Training Program Among Friends, LLC (WA753791) under DSHS CE Approval Code

Available Formats:

  • Half Day (3 hours) - between 9am-12pm or 1pm-4pm PT

  • Full Day (6 hours) - 9am-4pm PT with an hour lunch
