Connecting Medical, Mental, and Sexual Health

Learning Objectives

  • Understand sexual health as a critical part of overall healthcare and emphasize comprehensive, life-span sexual health over specific disease prevention

  • Recognize medical and mental health providers as key players in preventing sexual abuse AND promoting healthy sexuality

  • Identify and overcome the barriers to addressing sex and sexuality in clinical settings

Description

There is an international movement to recognize the importance of reproductive and sexual health which has important implications for medical and mental health clinicians and patients. And, there’s a clear need for medical and mental health professionals to address sexual development, but most have not received adequate (or any) training regarding how to approach these critical topics.

This training will help medical and mental health professionals explore proactive strategies for supporting the sexual health of patients of all ages, with extra tips and tools for supporting patients who identify as sexual or gender minorities and/or who experience cognitive disabilities or disorders.
