Darwin Forca

Behavior Professional

Short Bio

  • 6-7 years.

  • I have worked in bicycle shops before. Those are fun because you learn a lot about bicycle mechanics and maintenance and about transportation justice.

I keep up on regular research into multiple diagnoses, particularly regarding diagnoses that correlate with Autism, such as OCD, IED, C-PTSD, BPD, and ADHD.

  • My philosophy about my work is that all that I do must be person-centered. The people and teams I work with and work for are my bottom-line and only through dedication, inexhaustible creativity, and collaboration can that bottom-line be met.

  • When I was working with a person who needed support around organizing and cleaning their apartment and I was able to develop a strategy that helped them consistently make progress while not overwhelming them. Everytime I checked-in with them their apartment was clearner and more organized and they felt like they could stay on top of it with their support strategies.

  • One of my first supervisors in this field really took the time and energy to not only explain things to me but to also constructively criticize me and set expectations. She showed me how to make support tools and assess their effectiveness and how to catalogue and build on resources. She always made sure I understood what I was getting into with direct supports and that informaiton is invaluable to maintiang longevity in this field. We're still friends today and I am grateful for her wisdom.

  • I love how friendly, clear, and communicative everyone is. I love that we look at everyone we support as a dynamic and whole person.

  • I like reading, writing, painting/sketching, hiking, and playing D&D.

  • No pets, but I love dogs.

  • I live with my best friend and my kiddo.

  • My kiddo's name is Audrey and they are a bold and funny five year old who loves to sing, dance, wear cute outfits, and play at the park and the library. Audrey likes telling jokes and getting laughs and generally being silly.

  • I am from Oregon. I've lived in almost every part of Oregon except for Eastern Oregon. I've never lived outside of the state.

  • I gave birth to my first and only child in January of 2020 and in February 2020, everything went into lock-down. I worked at a grocery store five minutes from my apartment and had to return to work less than five weeks after I had my kiddo. It was a little brutal having a newborn and working in a public-facing position, but I am grateful that for the entire time I had employment.

  • I have been lucky enough to visit Atlanta, L.A., and most parts of Washington. I really liked Atlanta - almost every neighborhood I saw there had these thriving gardens because the weather is perfect for so many plants. I loved L.A. because the beaches are gorgeous and there's so much to do.

  • It was for a Christian pop-punk band called Superchick, and I think I was maybe 12. I liked them but I wasn't really allowed to listen to non-Christian music at the time.

  • One of my favorite movies is Ten Things I Hate about you because I had a crush on Julia Stiles when I was growing up and she is so sarcastic and funny in that film.

  • Nachos. Loaded nachos with a pile of tortilla chips, seasoned beef, pico-de-gallo, salsa verde, guacomole, sour cream, black beans, the works.
