Tier 1: FOUNDATIONS
Day 3
Peer Learning Questions - Unit 4
Step 1: Read the Scenario Below
Step 2: Answer the Questions Assigned to Your Break-out Group
Scenario:
You are the members of a team who support Taylor, a young adult who experiences an intellectual and/or developmental diversity (disability). Right now, the team consists of a parent, a foster care provider, a teacher, a personal support worker, a job coach, and Taylor’s family friend.
Taylor has been working at a local retail market with very diverse employees and customers and really likes their job. They are learning a lot and getting great employee reviews, so they’re feeling really good about themself. They’ve also made a lot of friends at work, and seem to be well-liked; which is great because they recently graduated from high school– so they lost touch with many of their friends from high school. While they have been living in a foster care home that they like very much in a medium size city, they are still close with their biological family who live in a small town near-by. Taylor’s family has very strong ties to a local faith community and are active members in it.
The case manager has called a team meeting and has shared the following information with the team for you to deal with:
“Yesterday I got a call from Taylor’s manager at work saying Taylor is suspended from work and may be getting fired. The manager said a customer complained about Taylor because apparently, Taylor was standing really close to the customer and said something and then tried to hug the customer and the customer is very upset. The customer felt Taylor was being inappropriate, creepy and felt Taylor was coming on to them. Also, the customer’s parents told the manager that both the store and Taylor could be in legal trouble.”
