Tier 1: FOUNDATIONS
Day 3
Unit 4 Immersion Activity
Positive and Proactive Strategies
Standard Instructions for All Activities:
Choose one person who will read these instructions for the group. And choose one person to be your group’s spokesperson for this activity when you come back to the main room to share with the larger group.
If you have trouble understanding these instructions, have one group member go back to the “main room” to ask the facilitators for help.
You will get a one-minute warning to come back to the “main room”. If you don’t do anything, you will automatically be brought back to the large group after the one-minute warding has expired.
Specific Instructions for This Activity:
Before you get started…
When you are asked to teach someone to do something or create supports to help them achieve a goal, you recognize that you need to use different strategies from a whole menu that you know of already.
For example, imagine if you were trying to teach someone how to fix eggs for themself, to do their laundry, to register for classes at school, to open a bank account, or to do their grocery shopping. For each one of these tasks, you would choose which strategies would be best to support the person you work with. We’ve made a sample list on the following page for you to reference – but this isn’t all of them, you can think of your own!
Now it’s time to apply the strategies you already know to sexual behaviors. Your group will be creating supports to help someone with a sexual behavior. Whatever your group number is, you will be creating supports for the corresponding behavior in the list on your sheet. The purpose of this activity is to identify positive, proactive strategies for supporting sexual activities and relationships.
Remember to choose someone to be your team’s spokesperson for this activity when you come back to the main room to share with the larger group who has not done it before.
Next, your group needs to choose 1 person who will be your group’s recorder for this activity.
Open the Google Sheets for this activity and scroll to the tab that matches your group #.
On the tab named "list of strategies" you will find common strategies parents and professionals use to support someone.
On your tab you will see a sexual activity of a supported person that is assigned to your group. Work together to come up with a “plan” to support them with this behavior, using a minimum of 7 strategies, but as many as you can think of in the time you have. You can use strategies from those listed, or any others you can think of!
Your group’s recorder should write out your plan on your tab.
You will have a one-minute warning when time is wrapping up and then we’ll be coming back to share/process as a whole group.
